History - The area was inhabited by the Temecula Indians for hundreds of years before Spanish settlers moved in, then Mexican settlers took over the land. After the Mexican-American war, American settlers then laid claim to the land; a stagecoach line moved through the area and then a railroad line, bringing more settlers along with it. Irvine now has a population of 117,852.
